Our AI Promise

At Healing Hands Community Project (HHCP), we use artificial intelligence (AI) as a force multiplier for social good. We are committed to responsible AI use that honors our core values of dignity, accountability, transparency, and integrity.

  • Beneficiaries First: Every AI system must serve those we support.

  • Human Oversight: Real people govern all AI-generated content and decisions.

  • Data Protection: We meet international standards, including POPIA, GDPR, and US regulations.

  • Mission Focused: We use AI to automate tasks, not relationships—freeing our team to focus on human connection and crisis response.

     

1. How We Use AI

We leverage AI to maximize every rand donated by redirecting funds from administrative overhead directly to our programs.

  • Communications: Drafting donor reports and creating multilingual program information in English, Xhosa, and Afrikaans.

  • Reporting: Synthesizing case notes (anonymized) and generating compliance documentation.

  • Case Management: Analyzing trends to improve service delivery and identify gaps.

  • Resource Optimization: Forecasting food security needs and identifying grant opportunities.

     

What We DO NOT Use AI For

To protect beneficiary dignity, we maintain absolute boundaries. We do not use AI for:

  • Determining individual eligibility or child protection actions.

  • Conducting mental health counseling or crisis intervention.

  • Making hiring, employment, or financial disbursement decisions.

  • Creating content that exploits beneficiary vulnerability.


2. Data Protection & Privacy

We process sensitive information for vulnerable populations and take this responsibility seriously.

  • Anonymization: All beneficiary data is anonymized before any AI processing.

  • No Training: Our data is never used to train commercial AI models.

  • Strict Prohibitions: Individual names, ID numbers, HIV/TB status, and trauma narratives never enter AI systems.

  • Vetted Tools: All tools are selected for encryption standards and EU GDPR/US LAWS/POPIA compliance.

     

3. Human Oversight

AI is a tool that extends human capability, never a replacement for human judgment or compassion.

  1. Staff Review: Every AI output is reviewed by a qualified staff member before use.

  2. Fact-Checking: Statistics are verified against our internal databases to prevent AI “hallucinations.”

  3. Governance: Our Board of Directors provides quarterly oversight of all AI applications.

     

4. Your Rights & Contact Information

We believe in transparency and welcome your feedback. HHCP beneficiaries have the right to access, correct, or request the deletion of their personal information.
