Sustainable Food

Our School Gardening Projects Eastern Cape

Our School Gardening Projects foster sustainable food production and educational development at partner schools across the Eastern Cape. This initiative addresses immediate food security needs while teaching practical life skills, environmental stewardship, and nutritional health for lasting impact on students and their families.

Growing Skills and Food Security

We establish functioning vegetable gardens and integrate hands-on training directly into the school environment.

  • Hands-On Education: Students learn practical gardening skills, including seed starting, crop maintenance, and harvesting.
  • School Feeding Supplement: Fresh produce from the gardens directly supplements the school nutrition program, improving the quality and consistency of student meals.
  •  Life Skills: The program teaches teamwork, responsibility, and the basic science of sustainable agriculture.
  •  Partner Schools Include: Colleen Glen Primary School, Emzomcane Primary School, Yhukoselo Haven, and ACVV Van Der Vyver Homes.

Investing in Long-Term Sustainability

  • Infrastructure Investment: Donations fund initial garden infrastructure, essential tools, quality seeds, and necessary irrigation.
  •  Curriculum Support: We provide ongoing maintenance support and educational curricula that link gardening to classroom learning (science and nutrition).
  • Community Value: By promoting healthy eating and self-production, we empower families to build resilience against food price volatility.

Cultivating Health and Self-Sufficiency

This program is an investment in self-sufficiency, addressing hunger through education rather than just relief. We believe in empowering the next generation to feed their families and community.
